The Strat has recently appointed a new property leader, and interestingly, the person chosen for the role was already within the company. Golden Entertainment, the parent company of the resort-casino located on the border of downtown Las Vegas and the Strip, has announced that Skylar Dice has been promoted to the position of senior vice president and general manager of the Strat. Dice had previously been working as the property’s vice president and assistant general manager since November 2021.
According to a news release on Thursday, Blake Sartini II, the executive vice president and COO of Golden Entertainment, expressed confidence in Dice’s abilities, stating, “Skylar has demonstrated exceptional leadership and operational expertise during his time at The STRAT, and we are confident in his ability to continue enhancing the guest experience while driving growth across all areas of the property.” Sartini went on to explain, “His promotion reflects the trust we have in his capabilities to lead this iconic destination on the Las Vegas Strip.”
Dice took over the leadership of the property following the departure of the previous general manager, Stephen Thayer, earlier in the summer. Thayer moved on to become the top executive at Palms casino-resort in September. As the general manager, Dice is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hotel’s roughly 2,400 rooms, the 80,000 square-foot casino, and the other attractions on the property.
Interestingly, Dice had prior experience leading a Golden Entertainment property. He had served as the vice president and general manager of Rocky Gap resort-casino in Flinstone, Maryland starting in 2015. However, the Las Vegas-based company later sold that property to Century Casinos Inc. and real estate investment trust VICI Properties Inc. in July 2023 for $260 million. During his time at Rocky Gap, Dice had been in charge of the hotel, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and had led the resort’s philanthropic outreach efforts.
Upon his promotion, Dice expressed his honor in taking on the role of general manager at The Strat, stating, “I’m honored to take on the role of general manager at The STRAT and look forward to continuing our work to elevate the guest experience and strengthen the property’s status as a top destination in Las Vegas.” He also mentioned his pride in being part of the team at the property and his excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead.
