Las Vegas Vacation Turns into Nightmare: Woman Left Scarred by Bed Bug Bites at Off-Strip Casino

A Mississippi woman has filed a lawsuit against a Las Vegas off-Strip casino-hotel, alleging permanent scarring from bed bugs during her stay at the property. Krystal Nailer claims she spent over $15,000 to address the effects of the bed bug encounter at The Strat casino-hotel in October 2022, leading to emotional and physical damage, including weeks of itching and scratching resulting in permanent scars.

Representatives for The Strat declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal matter. However, the Nevada Resort Association released a statement in February emphasizing the comprehensive health and safety measures in place at Las Vegas resorts to prevent and address such incidents. The statement highlighted the rare occurrence of bed bugs and assured swift action in response to reports.

Nailer’s attorney filed a lawsuit against The Strat and its parent company, Golden Entertainment, seeking reimbursement for expenses incurred and potential future costs. According to the complaint, Nailer discovered painful welts on her left leg and buttocks two days after checking into the hotel on October 16, 2022. She reported the issue to hotel staff, who inspected the room, filled out an incident report, and provided hydrocortisone cream.

The court filing states that Nailer had no prior exposure to bed bugs before this incident. As a result of the bites and the fear of bringing the pests home, she incurred medical expenses and purchased new luggage and clothes. The lawsuit alleges that the hotel was aware of previous guest complaints about bed bug infestations but failed to adequately address the issue through staff training or proper mitigation efforts.
